It is a typical image in Liguria; the colorfully painted houses. The coast of Liguria stretches from the French border, beyond Genoa, to Tuscany. The Riviera di Levante is located just south of Genoa. One of the gems in this area is the fishing village of Camogli. Besides the multicolored houses and narrow streets, this picturesque village has much more to offer. In this blog, we share our Camogli tips.
Tritt Tip: Boat trip to Camogli, San Fruttuoso and Portofino from Genoa via GetYourGuide!
The colorfully painted facades with 'Trompe-l'oeildecoration – in which an optical illusion is intentionally created – are characteristic of this area in LiguriaDuring your walk through Camogli, you will see windows painted on various facades. These murals ensured that the buildings acquired a symmetrical appearance. Another beautiful example of this decorative style can be found in the Santa Maria Assunta Basilica, in this basilica, there is so much to see you won't know where to look first.

Hiking enthusiasts can follow one of the many scenic paths that Camogli and Chiappa Point (a typical coastal village named after the pointed rock jutting out into the sea) connects with each other. On the way to Punta Chiappa, you cross the path leading to San Fruttuoso Bay and come across the idyllic little church of San Nicolò di Capodimonte.
Not only hikers but also divers can visit the area around Camogli. Many caves can be found in the vicinity, including the Grotta dei Gamberi in Punta Chiappa, which owes its name to the many small shrimp that completely cover the cave walls. Crabs, lobsters, and corals can also be found in this cave.
A steep 10 km walk takes you from the port of Camogli to perhaps one of the most impressive bays in Liguria: the Bay of San Fruttuoso. The Abbey of San Fruttuoso is dominantly present in this small bay; you certainly shouldn't miss this during your visit to Camogli and the surrounding area!
