Climate Italy
Italy has a predominantly Mediterranean climate. This is found mainly in Central and Southern Italy. In the north, there is a maritime climate, with the exception of the northernmost part bordering the Alps, where there is an alpine climate. However, the landscape on this peninsula is very diverse, ranging from high mountains and long coastlines to hills and plains, so differences can certainly be observed per region. The further south you go, the warmer it gets, with peaks of over 40°C. Sicily.
Northern Italy and the Dolomites
In North-Italy In the Dolomites, there are warm summers perfect for hiking in the mountains, swimming in mountain lakes, or sunbathing on a terrace. Average temperatures are around 26 to 27°C, though it will naturally get a bit cooler if you go high into the mountains. In the winters, you can ski fantastically there, as is well known, from December to March and sometimes a bit longer, into April. Plenty of snow and low temperatures, which are accompanied by sunshine.
Liguria
The Ligurian coast, also known as the Italian Riviera, is a coastline stretching from the French border to the area around La Spezia and the famous villages of the Cinque Terre. Due to its location, where the Alps to the north protect against cold winter winds, this region has a temperate climate. Winters are mild with average temperatures of around 10 to 12°C. In the east of Liguria Generally, it rains somewhat more than in the west of the region. The west has almost as many sunny days as Southern Italy. You will rarely encounter a snow shower or very cold periods here.
Central Italy
Also in Tuscany, Umbria In other central regions, there are hot, dry summers, with temperatures reaching 30°C and sometimes higher in July and August. In winter, temperatures are generally mild, averaging 5 to 10°C, although they can be somewhat higher along the coast than inland. Rain showers can be heavy, and exceptionally, snow may fall. In spring, it is often already very pleasant, with temperatures of 20 to 25°C.
Rome
Rome It is popular for a city break all year round. The coldest month in Rome is January, when averages are reported ranging from a minimum of 4°C to a maximum of 12°C. However, the sun shines a lot in Rome, and as early as February you can find days warm enough to sit on a terrace. The number of hours of sunshine per day then increases further in April, to around 7 to 8 hours a day. The hottest months are July and August, with minimum temperatures of 20°C to a maximum of 30°C, but there are outliers here too, and the mercury can easily rise to 40°C. Summer certainly lasts well into September. It is only in October and November that the number of hours of sunshine per day decreases, and then there is also a greater chance of rain showers. But these remain excellent months to visit this beautiful city.

Southern Italy
In Naples and the surrounding area, you should expect hot, very dry summers and rainy but mild winters. The average temperature in January and February is around 12 to 14°C; it practically never drops below 4°C. If you travel south, temperatures rise slightly, but you will almost never encounter snow or frost here.
Sicily
You could say that in Sicily Summer begins almost as early as May and continues well into October. Sicily holds the record for the highest recorded temperature in Europe. In August 2021, a temperature of 48,8°C was recorded in Floridia, in the province of Syracuse (east coast). This is an outlier, but in the summer, you should expect temperatures around 35°C. The average temperature in Sicily during the coldest months of the year is around 13°C. Consequently, the winters are mild; snow lies only on the highest parts of Mount Etna, where there are even ski slopes. Rain falls mainly in the months of October, November, December, and January.
Sardinia
Sardinia is, among other things, because the pleasant climate beloved. Thanks to the subtropical climate, the island enjoys warm summers with little rain, and it remains pleasant in autumn and winter as well. From May through September, the sea water temperature is around 20 to 25 degrees, which is perfect for a refreshing dip!
