The cost of a boat trip depends heavily on the date of your journey. Some companies sail once a week, while others sail every other day or daily. Additionally, the journey duration can vary, partly depending on the ferry company: you can choose a fast crossing or a trip with an overnight stay, and you can travel via a different port on the way there than on the way back, or use different ferry companies. It is also good to know that crossings on weekends are often more expensive than on weekdays.

Ferry services to Sicily

Instead of flying to Sicily, you can also travel by car and boat. There are various ferry connections from France and Italy to different arrival points in Sicily. You can depart from Genoa (Liguria), Livorno (Tuscany), Salerno and Naples (Campania), Rome – Civitavecchia (Lazio), and in the south from Reggio Calabria and Vibo Valentia (Calabria). You can arrive in Palermo, Trapani, Messina, Catania, Milazzo, and Termini Imerese. The duration of the crossing naturally depends heavily on the chosen route; the crossing from Genoa to Sicily takes approximately 20 hours. From Civitavecchia, the boat takes about 15 hours. The longer crossings depart less frequently.

Spending the night on the boat

If you want to travel in peace, you can rent a cabin on the boat. In your own cabin, you can sleep soundly, take a quick shower, and enjoy the rocking of the sea. Handy if you are on vacation with the children! Renting a private room on the boat can be more expensive at night, but the price is comparable to a night in a hotel room or vacation home. That saves you some money!

Once on the island

Make sure you arrive at the port closest to your final destination. This way, you won't have to drive a long way to reach your accommodation. On the boat, you can already start looking at which places on Sardinia, for example, you would like to visit, in case you haven't already decided. Will you soak up the culture in the capital Cagliari, enjoy the clear water and sun on the beautiful beach of Cala Luna, or visit the extraordinary Caves of Neptune? Experience Sardinia! Let yourself here inspire.
