Residence Vista Maddalena
The residence Vista Maddalena is located in the province of Sassari, near Olbia in the north-eastern coast of Sardinia. The beach is only 150 meters far from the holiday homes, and the lively tourist hotspot of Palau is 500 meters away. In Palau you can enjoy the restaurants and bars or take a ferry to the islands of La Maddalena.
Palau’s beaches are popular for water sports: here you can go diving, snorkelling, kitesurfing and sailing. These beaches are real “bounty beaches” in Caribbean style, with white sands and clear blue waters. Palau has also an atmospheric historic centre where there is a lively night market that is definitely worth a visit!
The residence Vista Maddalena is a complex of holiday homes built in Sardinian style in a large Mediterranean garden which connects the apartments with the swimming pool at the centre. At the residence, there are different types of accommodation: studios and two rooms apartments. The residence is surrounded by a pine forest and has a beautiful view of the islands of La Maddalena and Santo Stefano. From Palau is possible to reach La Maddalena’s islands in 20 minutes by boat.
The residence, besides the large swimming pool, has a barbecue area and a playground for the kids. It is also possible to rent bicycles to explore Sardinia during your holiday!

The centre of Palau is within walking distance from the residence (500 meters). From Palau you can take the ferry to the Maddalena islands: 12 beautiful islands of which only 7 are inhabited. All the islands are part of the Parco Nazionale Arcipelago della Maddalena, a national natural reserve, and are probably the top must-see place in Sardinia. The largest (and most popular) Island is La Maddalena, famous for the pink sand. Also part of the archipelago is the island of Caprera, which not only is a paradise for snorkelling and diving enthusiast, where is possible to see dolphins, but has also historic significance, as it is the place where Giuseppe Garibaldi, the “hero of the two worlds”, who unified Italy, died.
Porto Cervo is 25 km away and the airport and port of Olbia are 50 km away.
Boat Excursions from Palau:
- Half day excursion – National Park of La Maddalena archipelago.
- Boat trip along the exclusive Costa Smeralda, including the jet set harbour of Porto Cervo.
Only 7 km west of Palau, there is Porto Pollo, a famous windsurfing spot, near the beautiful island “Isola dei Gabbiani”.
A few kilometres west of Porto Pollo there are the long sandy beaches of Santa Teresa, followed by the famous peninsula of Capo Testa. Capo Testa is characterized by fascinating rock formations along idyllic bays that are incredibly beautiful during the sunset. From the lighthouse of Capo Testa you can have wonderful walks along the various hiking routes with signs containing information and explanations about the local flora and fauna. The perfect place for lovers of hiking, birdwatching, nature photography and outdoor activities in general.
This region is also the home of the famous DOCG wine Vermentino di Gallura, one of the best white wines in Italy, and the DOC wine Cannonau, one of the most iconic Sardinian wines. The wines can be found at the famous Vigne Surrau wine estate. The wine estate can be found on the road to Porto Cervo, and the owners will give you a tour of the estate that includes the wine cellar, art galleries, wine canteen and wine tasting. In 1997 the Surrau brothers planted the first vineyards, and the first harvest was in 2004, and since then the Surrau wines have been exported all over the world.
During summer, the festival “L’estate Olbiese” takes place in the centre of Olbia, 45 km from the residence: a cultural festival with concerts, art performances, readings and cabaret shows. For culture tourists, the archaeological museum, the church of San Simplicio, and the church of San Paolo in the historic centre are definitely worth a visit!
Olbia’s port is connected by ferry to Genova, Livorno, and Piombino, so it is possible and easy to combine visit Sardinia during your holidays in Tuscany. You can combine with a holiday home on the Tuscan coast, or a pleasant agriturismo in the famous green hills of Tuscany.
